Toscan 8Q Fighter

Description

This is the XWA Upgrade version of the Toscan 8Q Fighter, a heavy one-man fighter, used mostly by criminals and pirates. This version is actually v2.0. My first attempt on that ship was my application to join the team back somewhere in 2003 or so. It's come a long way since then and there's still potential for improvement....

Note: This model comes with an installer EXE, kindly provided by Darksaber. Due to upload constraints I had to put the executable into a zip file.

HD Remake

While this is already a remake of my initial work(it was my first XWAUP craft) I'm thinking of doing another remake, for a number of reasons.
  • First: The fighter has one big logical issue: How do you land and board that thing? With those vertical wings, you'd need a fairly large ladder to actually get to the cockpit and the fighter would require a pretty long landing gear in order to not fall over. All in all I picture it looking pretty goofy. So, therefore what I'm going to do is make use of the S-Foils hook and turn those vertical wings into S-foils which would fold inwards to allow landing. While I'm at it, I may as well add retractable landing gears.
  • Second: Revamp the cockpit. In short: it's too big. The version in the last DSUCP has actually been shrunk down to fit the pilot. I'm thinking of remodelling the whole thing and, while I'm at it, turn it into an Active / Dynamic cockpit.
Schedule? None so far. This upgrade isn't too high on my list of priorities. but I'll get to it at some point.
Toscan Fighter Model Remake

Dev notes

  • Cockpit:
    • Revise bits of the cockpit interior to be less flashy and colorful (gritty realism ftw)
    • Convert to AC/DC
    • Lower the cockpit canopy ceiling.
    • Extend cockpit model rear to connect with main fuselage. That gap looks weird.
  • Add landing gear & advanced base OPT
  • Add hinges & S-Foil function to fins so they can fold inward upon landing

Progress log

2020-03-27:
Prototype for the folding wings. Added a primitive hinge and removed the fins' inner "bumps".
2019-08-12:
First concepts on how to redo the the cockpit and to get a feel how the folding wings could be done..
